Toilet cabin or toilet trailer?

Both are mobile sanitary solutions, but they differ in structure and flexibility: the single cabin stands on its own and can be placed freely, the toilet trailer bundles several units in one shared structure. Which solution fits depends on the area, the number of users and the level of comfort required.

The difference

Single cabin and toilet trailer compared

Both options have their place. What matters is which one suits your area and your project better.

A toilet cabin, which forms the core of our range, is a single, compact sanitary unit. It is delivered and set up separately and can also be moved individually if required. Several cabins can be combined into a cluster, for example standard toilet cabins, an accessible cabin and a hand-wash station, without being structurally connected to one another.

A toilet trailer, on the other hand, combines several cabins and often additional equipment such as wash basins in one shared structure, usually mounted on a trailer. It is delivered as a whole and accordingly needs a contiguous, easily reachable area for set-up, access and collection.

Flexibility on site

The clear advantage of single cabins is their flexibility: each cabin is small and light enough on its own to be placed even on cramped or irregularly shaped areas. That makes them particularly suitable for construction sites where progress changes the layout, or for event areas where the cabins are to be spread across several locations to take account of routes and visitor flows. Read more in the article “Where can a portable toilet be placed?”.

Comfort and equipment

Thanks to its bundled structure a toilet trailer can sometimes give a more uniform impression of comfort, for example when several wash basins are housed in one shared room. The same effect can often be achieved with a well-thought-out combination of single cabins, however: a toilet cabin with hand-wash basin and a separate hand-wash station together create a cluster that offers guests comparable hygiene facilities while staying more flexible.

When which solution is the better choice

  • Construction sites with a changing workflow usually benefit from cabins that can be moved individually.
  • Smaller private parties often manage with one or two single cabins, supplemented by a hand-wash station.
  • Events with several visitor areas are often better served by single cabins spread across the site than by one central structure.
  • Accessibility can be provided in a targeted, space-saving way with a dedicated cabin.

What the area should dictate

Whichever solution you prefer, the area should in any case be firm, easily reachable for our service vehicles and agreed with the owner, client or organiser. How many units make sense in total also depends on the expected number of users; more on that in the article “How many toilets does an event need?”.

Our recommendation

Usually the better answer: a well-thought-out combination

In most of the projects we support, a combination of single cabins proves to be the more practical solution.

Our core range therefore consists of single cabins that can be combined flexibly: standard toilet cabin, toilet cabin with hand-wash basin, accessible toilet cabin, urinal stand and hand-wash station. They cover most projects, from the small private party to the major event with several sanitary clusters. Should your particular project call for a different approach, we will discuss it openly with you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the basic difference between a toilet cabin and a toilet trailer?

A single cabin is a single, compact sanitary unit that stands on its own. A toilet trailer bundles several cabins and sometimes further equipment such as wash basins in one shared structure that is delivered as a whole.

Which is more flexible to position?

Single cabins can usually be positioned more flexibly, as each one is small and light on its own and can be set up individually. A toilet trailer needs a contiguous area that matches its dimensions.

Which solution suits a small private party better?

For smaller private occasions one or two single cabins are often enough, supplemented by a hand-wash station if required. Whether more capacity makes sense in a particular case depends on the number of guests and the duration.

Does W&W also offer toilet trailers?

Our core range consists of single cabins such as the standard toilet cabin, toilet cabin with hand-wash basin, accessible toilet cabin, urinal stand and hand-wash station, which can be combined flexibly into clusters. Whether a different solution makes more sense for your project is something we are happy to discuss with you personally.

Can I make several single cabins work like a toilet trailer?

Yes, in many cases several single cabins, supplemented by hand-wash stations, can form a cluster that feels similarly comfortable to a toilet trailer but can be adapted more flexibly to the area in question.
